Vice President Marketing: Riggs Eckelberry

    Riggs Eckelberry joins NetVersant Technologies as its Vice President of Marketing, after a year in which he successfully founded Los Angeles-based Riggs Eckelberry Marketing Group (REMG), an online marketing agency that helps its clientele develop markets and revenue using the Internet.

    At the close of 1997, the agency counted ten corporate clients and a team of twenty-two. A management team now operates the agency under the name of Lassoo Interactive, and Riggs continues in the role of Chairman.

    Initially, Riggs gained his reputation as a software marketer while at Quarterdeck Corporation in 1995, with the launch of CleanSweep95, which lifted the utility from 3,000 to 30,000 units monthly, making it first in its category in a period of just three months.

    Subsequently, as Quarterdeck's Director of Strategic Marketing, he radically increased the company's reliance on audience-responsive product design, and, as Director of Product Marketing for the innovative WebCompass product, experimented with low-budget online marketing strategies.

    Riggs first used computers to aid in market research. In 1979, while running his own research organization, he commissioned a survey tabulation program running on the first true personal computer, the Altair 88.

    Believing strongly in the future of a new generation of super-microcomputers, he founded and operated a Value Added Reseller (VAR) firm in New York that implemented UNIX-based solutions for businesses in the region.

    Later still, Riggs was a systems integrator for a variety of companies, especially in direct marketing and telephone sales.

    This experience in corporate computing has given Riggs a great deal of familiarity with, and understanding of what MIS Managers must deal with on a day to day basis.

    In addition to his extensive experience in corporate computing and high-tech marketing, Riggs has accumulated hands-on experience in an astonishing variety of other areas, such as:

    Sales management and wine importing for a national wine club;

    Technical Analysis for a high-voltage engineering firm;

    Team positions in feature-length films and commercials;

    Early experience as an officer and captain on commercial ships.

    Today’s markets are in rapid transition, and no one can be sure of what is ahead. Riggs is uniquely equipped by his diverse background to make the innovative yet balanced moves required to succeed in such an environment.
